Tri-State Racetrack,
which markets itself under the name "Tri-State Racetrack and
Gaming Center", is a "racino" located in an enclave of the
city limits of Nitro, West Virginia, although it is actually
located several miles from that city and is generally thought
of as being in the unincorporated community of Cross Lanes,
West Virginia. It is located just off the Cross Lanes exit of
I-64, 14 miles west of Charleston, West Virginia and 36 miles
east of Huntington, West Virginia. It features slot machines,
live greyhound racing, and off-track betting for both
greyhound and horse racing. It features several restaurants
and food operations.
The facility has a Mardi Gras theme, similar to that used
by the Harrah's chain of casinos, but is not owned by that
corporation. The track is currently expanding its casino
offerings, as casino gambling was legalized in 2007. It
currently has a large poker room, and offers the table games
of blackjack, roulette, craps, three card poker, four card
poker and Let It Ride. Much of the gaming space remains closed
for remodeling.
On February 3, 2009 track management admitted that its
promise to construct a hotel, a permanent separate casino, an
arena and other improvement promised in the casino gambling
legalization election would not happen "for the foreseeable
future".
